Intervention proposal draft

Intervention idea

Throughout this unit I think that something that has been clear to me is how excluded people on the periphery of the system must feel. However, with the cohort I interact with, (those in their final term and those up to five years after graduation.) I think this becomes even clearer. As although every single student has access to the Graduate Employability Support offer, a large amount of students and graduates from ethnic minority groups do not access the service. This also happens to be the cohort with high awarding gaps as well as poor graduate outcomes.

One of the ways I want to help resolve this is to help the graduating students feel more seen by the careers service. With the hope that even if they don’t interact with us straight after graduating, they have an awareness of our service and knowledge that there was a space that met their needs specifically.

Ways I’d like to explore this

Creating resources that centre them and their experiences. This could include themed workshops e.g. Seeking out and spotting inclusive employers or resources that help them transition to from being a student with support systems such as Creative Shift and the Student Union to a graduate who’s access to these services are somewhat limited.

One idea I’d like to take forward and present as a resource is a guide on how to seek out a mentor that reflects you. It could cover: where to look for a mentor, ways to approach them and how to be a good mentee.
